Description
TVB Jade (Chinease: 翡翠台) is a Cantonese broadcast hd channel owned by Hong Kong Television Broadcasts Limited. It was launched on 19 November 1967. Most of the programmes will be broadcast in Cantonese, but some of the programmes will be broadcast simultaneously in other languages using Liyu technology (analog version until 30 November 2020) or multiple AC-3 streams (digital version). Its programs include news, TV dramas, variety shows, animation, timely comments and interviews and other diversified programs. According to television Broadcasts LTD. ‘s business brief, Jade is positioned as “TVB’s flagship Chinese channel, providing viewers with locally produced dramas, variety shows and rich content tailored to local tastes and preferences” . The digital version of Jade channel was switched to HD broadcasting at 3am on 18 March 2013, and increased the available bandwidth of the channel to a maximum of 10.5Mbps from 22 February 2016, bringing the picture quality up to a better HD level.
Jade’s main competitors are ViuTV, a unit of Hong Kong Television Entertainment Limited, and KaiTV Hong Kong, a unit of Wonder Television Limited. Especially from Monday to Friday 21:30-22:30, jade channel and the above two channels are simultaneously broadcast episodes.
